About Sam Epps

Sam has spent the last 15 years working in non-profit, government and politics.
He began his career working with The United Way in their community initiatives
department overseeing community programs at charitable organizations such as:
The Urban League, The Boy and Girl Scouts of America, Hospice, The Food Bank
and other service agencies.

Sam then went on to become an organizer for the Maryland Democratic Party as well
as several political campaigns across the country. From there he went on to work in
the Maryland General Assembly as Chief of Staff to the Baltimore City delegation and
legislative aide to Delegate Salima Siler Marriot.

In Sam’s current position as a worker advocate for 1199 SEIU United Health Care
Workers East, he has been one of the leading voices advocating for saving the
Prince George’s County Hospital System. Sam believes the Hospital System is an
essential component of the County’s public health duties, as well as a substantial
contributor to the employment and economic development of the 1st District.

As an elected member of the Prince George’s County Democratic Committee, Sam
has helped to elect progressive Democrats to fight for fairness, equality, and a better
life forour families, workers and communities.

Sam has served on the Board of Directors of Ceasefire Maryland, an organization
working to protect the community by keeping guns off our streets. As a board member
of Maryland Citizens Against State Executions, Sam has fought for more sensible and
effective law enforcement strategies. He also understands the importance of our children
and, as a mentor of young people in the Safe Passage program, has helped numerous at
risk young people learn the responsibilities and consequences of their decisions as
they grow.

Sam has always believed that a community is only as good as the people of that comm-
unity who chose to get involved to make their neighborhood better. So, Sam has been
active in the Villages of Patuxent Greens Homeowners Association and currently serves
as their treasurer.

Along with Zabrina, his wife of eight years, he has taught church school at First Baptist
Church of North Brentwood, and where he served on the Trustee Board.
